Estimate your monthly business banking costs
A card can copy its published monthly fee into this form. It does not copy EFT, cash or debit-order prices, because those tariffs were not recorded as current figures.
Understanding the monthly cost
The figure on a card is the published monthly account fee, where one was found. Pay-as-you-transact accounts often keep that fee low and charge each payment. A bundled account may include a stated number of electronic payments. Extra payments, immediate payments, cash deposits and cash withdrawals can still be charged. An unused bundle is not a saving until you price a normal month.
Standard Bank MyMoBiz Plus is described as including 10 electronic payments. Absa Business Evolve Start is described as 50 bundled electronic transactions and 2 immediate payments. Those allowances are not applied in the calculator, because the out-of-bundle price was not recorded.
Who can open an account
A sole proprietor, a partnership, a private company (Pty) Ltd, a close corporation, a trust and a non-profit are not the same customer. FNB First Business Zero is described for a sole proprietor. Capitec Business Banking for Companies is described for a CIPC-registered company. Other cards say to confirm eligibility. A filter that mentions a sole proprietor only means the eligibility sentence mentions one. It is not a list of every structure the bank accepts.
FICA and the people behind the business
Banks identify the business, the directors or owners, and often the beneficial owners and the people who may sign. They may ask for identity documents, registration documents, an address, and something that shows what the business does. The list is not the same for every applicant. CIPC documents apply to a registered company. They are not a credit approval. Source of funds and updates to customer information can be asked for later.
Payments, cash and who can release a payment
EFT, immediate payment, PayShap, debit orders and bulk files are different charges. This comparison does not print those prices, because a full pricing guide was not checked into each product. Cash deposits are often a percentage, a fixed fee, or both, and they matter for a business that takes cash. A digital account is not assumed to offer branch cash.
Who can see the account, who can load a payment, and who must approve it matters for a partnership, a payroll run and a business with more than one director. User limits and dual authorisation are not shown on these cards, because the records do not confirm them. Ask the bank before you rely on a control that is not in the contract.
International payments, foreign-currency accounts and exchange-control documents are separate from an ordinary EFT. Investec's published line mentions local and international cash management. The other accounts are not described here as including international payments. No exchange rate is shown.
A bank feed into accounting software is not the same as a CSV download. No accounting integration is listed, because none was confirmed on these records.
Deposit insurance
The Corporation for Deposit Insurance covers qualifying deposits up to R100 000 per qualifying depositor, per registered bank, subject to the rules. Cover is not automatically R100 000 on every account. Eligible balances at the same bank may be added together. Not every product sold by a bank is a qualifying deposit. A business overdraft or a business credit card is borrowing, not an insured deposit. No account on this page is marked as CODI protected.
Common questions
- Can a sole proprietor and a company open the same account?
- Not always. Some accounts name a sole proprietor, a turnover band or a CIPC-registered company. The card repeats that eligibility text. It does not decide that your business qualifies.
- Does a low monthly fee mean cheap banking?
- No. EFT, immediate payments, PayShap, debit orders, cash deposits and cash withdrawals can cost more than the monthly fee. A bundled account can still charge for use outside the bundle.
- What does FICA ask for?
- The bank identifies the business and the people behind it. A company usually needs registration documents, directors and beneficial owners. A sole proprietor is not asked for the same company documents. The exact list depends on the bank and the business.
- Are business deposits covered by CODI?
- Qualifying deposits are protected up to R100 000 per qualifying depositor, per registered bank, under the Corporation for Deposit Insurance rules. Cover is not R100 000 per account. Balances at the same bank can be added together. A credit facility is borrowing, not an insured deposit. This page does not mark any account as protected.
- Is a business credit card part of the account fee?
- No. A business credit card is a separate credit agreement. An overdraft is borrowing on the account, not part of the transactional fee shown here.
How WiT Money compares these accounts
Accounts stay in bank name order unless you sort by the published monthly fee. That sort is not a cheapest-bank award, because transaction charges are missing. A listed bank is not a recommendation, and WiT Money does not open the account. FSCA authorisation for another activity is not shown as a banking licence. The named legal entity is the one recorded for the brand. A licence number is not printed.
Related comparisons
A business credit card provides credit. It is not a place the business keeps its deposits, and the limit is not an account balance.
